At a sum-up meeting held by IOC and BOCOG (Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad), IOC Olympic Games Executive Director Gilbert Felli gave a briefing on the inspection results and put forth IOC suggestions related to the sport events.
The IOC, IFs (international sport organizations) and Chiefs de Mission of various countries and regions gave a positive evaluation of the successful operations of the events. According to their view, the excellent work in the venue construction, transport organization, security, and services for athletes, the media, and volunteer services has laid a solid foundation for the success of the 2008 Olympic Games.
BOCOG President Liu Qi told the meeting attendees that the 2007 Good luck Beijing sport events are in full swing. With the efforts of all parties and the guidance of IOC, the events are going on smoothly. The events this year mainly aim to test the functions of hardware facilities, technical systems, venue teams' working schemes, command system and urban operations.
Giving preliminary assessment of the sport events, Liu said the competition facilities and technical systems have been in smooth, reliable operation, and the test on urban environment and transport shows that they are on the right track, thanks to the support from the government and the general public. "With the transport in excellent order and the weather of the last four days rated 'good', we gain more confidence about the Games-time environment and transport conditions."
Liu pointed out that the follow-up plan for preparations will involve a build-up of teamwork, enabling the volunteers to gain the relevant know-how, which, together with their smiles, will secure a more solid foundation for the success of the 2008 Games. To improve service and reception plans, organizers will stick to international practices and formulated standards, while respecting individual characters and emphasized detail-oriented service. In addition, organizers will enhance international cooperation and invite experienced specialists to further internationalize the preparatory work.
