Cork Film Festival

Place : Cork, Ireland

Date : 14 Oct 2007 - 21 Oct 2007

The biggest selling show in the Corona Cork Film Festival this year is not a Hollywood blockbuster, nor is is an award-winning art-house film.
It is a double-bill of two locally produced documentaries about two Cork institutions, both gone but fondly remembered; Sir Henry’s, the venue for Sweat Dance and The Shed, home to the most fervent Cork City F.C. supporters. Originally scheduled for one screening, an additional two screenings have now sold out!
Sir Henry's The Shed
The two local documentaries have become a phenomena, the likes of which the festival has not seen before. Congratulations to directors Keith O’Shea (Sir Henry’s -120bpm) and Ed Godsell (The Shed).

Emma Bowell’s portrait of local skateboarders, Rebel Underground and Pat Collins’ Na Duganna (The Docks) are both selling strongly and that show will also be sold out.

Tickets are already gone for the special screening of The Silent Art, Louis Marcus’ profile of Cork sculpture Seamus Murphy.

The Festival’s Saturday Night Gala, Boy A, is the latest film from Cork director John Crowley (Intemission) is selling fast. And of course both ‘Made In Cork’ programmes of locally produced short films are sold out.

Internationally held in high regard, this festival was created to celebrate the art of film, developing an ever-increasing and enthusiastic audience of filmmakers and film-lovers over the years. For the vibrant city of Cork, it is one of the most important events in the social and cultural calendar. With screenings and associated lectures throughout the week, the programme is wide-ranging, an eclectic mix of big-budget movies, world cinema, innovative independent films, animation, documentaries, student projects and short films. In particular, the festival supports the short film, seeing it as art form as well as a route for young filmmakers to enter the industry, and provides lectures on favourite directors, new productions and developments
