To "rally" awareness of over-consumption and it's effects.

Buy Nothing Day is essentially a day where people(who observe this certain day-in this case a whole weekend) buy nothing.
They do this to make a statement about over-consumption(and it's effects- which are many and range from obesity to slave labour and in most cases putting small local business' out of business).

We who think this day is important are aware of numerous issues and participate in other forms of rally on a daily basis.
Buy Nothing Day was created by Adbusters, a magazine observing these among many other issues.

-THIS IS A TWO DAY EVENT!


-MOST people who are participating in this event practice lowered consumption among other forms of rally EVERYDAY!

-We are simply promoting awareness of the effects of over-consumption especially with respect to immoral business practices.

-YES you can eat and drink, just don't buy anything for the full 2 days.

PLEASE read ALL info before commenting, there seems to be a lot of confusion from people who seem to think that only practicing this for 2 days is meaningless.
The importance of raising awareness cannot be undermined(especially with self-righteousness).
