Some say number 9 is a good number, sacred and bringing luck.

For JiFFest, the 9th year is a turning point.

In the past 3 years, under the direction of Orlow Seunke, JiFFest has grown and developed into a thriving festival, with a record audience of 63,000 last year. Yayasan Masyarakat Mandiri Film Indonesia would like to thank Orlow, who left JiFFest in October, for his invaluable contribution and dedication in further building the festival into what it is today: South East Asia’s most exciting filmfestival!

YMMFI is proud to announce that this year’s JiFFest is managed by a young, fresh and dynamic team led by Lalu Roisamri as Program Director and Sari Mochtan as Festival Manager. Both have been with JiFFest since its inception in 1999 and have undergone training with leading film festivals around the world.

For the past twelve months, the JiFFest team has strived and worked hard to create and prepare another fabulous festival for you. This year, JiFFest will show more than 200 films from over 30 countries in Djakarta XXI, Kineforum, Goethe Institut, Erasmus Huis, and the new Blitz Megaplex in Grand Indonesia.

The set-up of the festival is the same as last year. We will have World Cinema that shows big films with big names behind them and in them; Panorama shows equally good films, but with lesser-known directors and actors. House of Docs showcases top documentaries and the Variety section screens quality short films from all over the world.

For the fi rst time, JiFFest is showcasing “A View from the SEA: a focus on South East Asian Films”, which will be part of the fest’s fixture in future years. The special presentation will also feature a retrospective on Malaysian legendary thespian, P. Ramlee and a premiere of “881” by Singapore’s talented filmmaker Royston Tan. All screenings in this category are FREE.

Once again, JiFFest is hosting Indonesian Feature Film Competition where all Indonesian films released from end of 2006 to 2007 will be screened for FREE.

JiFFest is proud to present the World Premiere of Chants of Lotus, an omnibus film by Indonesian female directors: Nia Dinata, Upi, Lasja F. Susatyo and Fatimah Tobing.

Lastly, do check out special screenings of films presented by American Film Institute’s Project 20/20 and World Cinema Fund.

Most JiFFest films are temporarily imported only for festival purpose. After the screenings end, the prints will be shipped out of the country, and you may never see them again. So take the whole week off , have fun, and enjoy JiFFest!
