Date: 11 Jul 2008 - 20 Jul 2008
Ivunik, Canada
In the extreme north of the Canadian mainland, this festival is noteworthy as much for its location as its content – a visit here will be an unforgettable experience. It was first held in 1989 and has grown steadily every year since. The festival attracts musicians from the full spectrum of northern cultures; aboriginal and non-aboriginal artists come together to compare different styles of work and learn new techniques. Outside visitors arrive from several countries besides Canada: The United States, Japan, Germany, Denmark and Australia have all been represented in recent years
Our theme for 2008 is “ Homecoming”. For 20 years we have hosted a range of artists from across the north for 10 art filled days of fun, laughter, music, and inspiration. At the 2008 Great Northern Arts Festival we welcome new and old faces home again. This year's festival will be held in conjunction with the Town of Inuvik 50th Anniversary celebration - and we are welcoming many old friends, neighbours and colleagues to come back home to this unique and vibrant community for a very special reunion. We are looking forward to a host of activities and events that should keep us going forward well through the next 20 years and even 50 years! Please consider coming and joining in the fun!
